London hosted the FT Digital Assets Summit 2025 on 6–7 May, uniting global leaders from finance, crypto, and Web3 to discuss the future of digital finance.

Crypto Accountants proudly attended, joining top professionals in exploring digital asset trends. The event spotlighted regulation, innovation, and adoption, showing the industry’s rapid progress and future direction.

Institutions Are No Longer Watching from the Sidelines

One of the clearest messages from the summit was that institutional adoption of digital assets is no longer theoretical. From large banks to asset managers, traditional financial institutions are actively engaging with crypto, seeking new opportunities in tokenisation, custody, and blockchain infrastructure.

Bitcoin and Ethereum are being seen less as speculative assets and more as part of long-term strategic positioning.

For firms like Crypto Accountants, this shift affirms the need for specialist financial services that understand the technology and the regulatory landscape.

The Regulatory Maze: From Uncertainty to Frameworks

Unsurprisingly, regulation was a hot topic across nearly every panel. Speakers acknowledged that while the regulatory landscape remains fragmented, progress is being made.

Jurisdictions such as the UK, EU, and parts of Asia are working to clarify rules around digital asset classification, custody, and taxation.

A key insight came from discussions around semantic interoperability, the idea that financial systems not only need to speak the same language technologically, but also understand the context behind transactions and data structures.

As digital assets become more integrated into mainstream financial markets, this level of clarity and standardisation will be essential.

At Crypto Accountants, we are seeing first-hand how clients are grappling with regulatory complexity, particularly when operating across borders. Clearer frameworks will be critical in helping them scale with confidence.

Tokenisation: From Hype to Utility

The discussion also covered real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation—bringing assets like real estate, equities, and bonds onto the blockchain.

Far from a buzzword, tokenisation was presented as a powerful tool for improving liquidity, fractional ownership, and operational efficiency.

Many speakers noted that tokenisation is not a question of if, but how fast. As use cases emerge, especially in private markets, businesses will drive growing demand for robust infrastructure and accounting support.

Traditional Finance Meets DeFi

Another recurring theme was the merging of traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralised finance (DeFi). Rather than operating in silos, the future seems to lie in hybrid models where blockchain can enhance existing systems rather than replace them entirely.

From instant settlements to on-chain identity, the possibilities are vast. Navigating them requires financial expertise where Crypto Accountants excels in compliance, risk, and tax efficiency.

Our Takeaway: Confidence and Collaboration

The overall mood at the FT Digital Assets Summit 2025 was one of cautious optimism. There’s a growing sense that the digital asset space is maturing, with real infrastructure, better guardrails, and a clearer sense of purpose.

For businesses, it’s a chance to grow—but also a call to stay aligned with shifting rules, taxes, and reporting standards.
